Block01 Paintings
Before we start looking at the lesson, let me explain my organization skill for working. In the evening before painting, I will study the lesson to be done taking notes as necessary. Once finished with this, I will do my transfer work by taping the transfer sheet to the canvas with the copy sheet on top. Following is the actual transferring with a stylus to get the outlines on my canvas. Finishing with removing the tape and transfer materials and taping the canvas to the board that is used on my easel to allow me to turn the drawing board as I paint.
The next morning is when I set up my palette with mixed oil paint using the prescribed manner in which we are taught in class. I like to do this in the morning, because it allows me to have the entire day to paint before the paint starts to develop the notorious skin from air drying that eventually occurs with oil painting. After this, I will begin to paint according to how I labeled the Shadows and Lights on my drawn picture.
I do use q-tips dripped with clove oil to slow down the drying time of the paint. Be sure to keep the clove oil away from any plastic as it will eat the plastic. Clove oil works by "eating" oxygen present in my Masterson Paint box. The Masterson Paint box also helps to keep the paint from drying out too quickly.
We are taught to paint from Extreme Shadow to Extreme Light. I find that my endurance level is not that of when I was younger, so I have learned to paint what is referred to as "object-to-object." Meaning, I will focus on one object of my painting at a time, but follow the Shadow to Light rule. Once I have the first object painted, I may take a break, get a drink etc. I then proceed to paint the next object, and so forth.
Once the painting is complete, I set up the easel in my photographing area, take the photo and then upload all of my work which includes the original photo of the still Life setup, the Rough Drawing that I created and finally the photo of my painting. It usually take about 24 hours for the instructors to critique my work and return their overview.
So let's take a look at the lessons and my paintings that were completed in Block01, and thanks for joining me in this journey. I hope it encourages either in your journey or to join the classes.
