Block01 Part20 ~ Pumpkin

This painting took more time than most of the others. Mainly because the texture of the pumpkin made it so that each of the dark areas of gradients had to be done individually. These are very narrow places, so the gradients were more taxing to get done so that they looked ok.

This was very hard, but I persevered. Around the tablecloth at the right side of the photo looks like it is softened, not really graded, but a softening of the edge, so I tried to get that a little softer without removing the edge. The folds in the cloth were interesting to paint, I wondered if rather than paint the shadow areas in the cloth what would happen if we just painted the cloth the Extreme Light and then went back and worked the shadows in. I didn’t do that, but someday, I would like to play with cloth folds more.

I know that I didn’t get the roughness of the stem completely correct, but I’m not sure how one would go about making that type of texture with oils. That would be another focus for sometime in the future.
