Block03 Part02 ~ Proportional Drawing with Color

This is the second painting in Block03. Half of the paintings are from colored photographs sent with the kit, and the other half are from proportional drawings from still life setups made by me.

The requirement is to send a photo of the painting by itself and then the painting and the still life in a combined photograph to make grading easier for the instructor.

The pink of the vase was easy and only required using white and red to make pink. The copper candle was more difficult. I had to create a Burnt Sienna color and then add more red and yellow. It isn't quite perfect, but I got it pretty close. With my first painting with colored oils, I was not sure I would like doing this Block, but I see with this painting that it is a matter of slowing down and practicing with several colors. I think it was hard to do the first one because of the idea that I didn't want to waste paint, but it is necessary to practice with paint in order to learn.

The paint is very saturated, so it takes very little to work with in order to make mixed colors. It only takes about 1/2 a pea-sized dollop to play with before creating the correct color.
